Friends are God’s way of apologizing to us for our families

Today is a very special day. Today is my friend Jobin’s* birthday. (Of course, Jobin is not her real name; Jobin is the weirdest name ever!)

Happy Birthday Jobin!

Jobin and I met on my first day of fourth grade at my new elementary school. She was the second person I met that day. We didn’t have the same teacher but I would see her in the mornings before classes. She didn’t live very far from me so when we hit the big time (sixth grade), Jobin, another friend, and I would walk home from school together. Jobin and I were always friends, but we didn’t really become close until we became “technical grown-ups”. Yeah, even though Jobin’s license might say she is a certain age today, and I’m only a short ways behind her, I don’t think either of us would qualify as a grown up.

Jobin is one of the few people who I know I can truly count on. She listen to my rants, raves, and bizarre tales with out judgement or criticism. I think she is secretly storing all my quirks in her mind in order to fuel her creative fire. Regardless of that, at the end of the day, she accepts who I am with no ifs ands or buts (and still likes me!).

I am pretty sure she is sitting at her computer, coffee in hand, squirming in her chair because she doesn’t like when attention is focused on her, but today is her day. So Jobin, my dear friend, I thank you so very very much for being my friend and wish you an amazing year full of happiness, success, good health, sushi, and lots and lots of JAM! Please remember how special you are, how much talent you have, and don’t be afraid to share it with the world.

Remember to give it everything you got!
