What I Did On My Summer “Vacation”

September 8, 2011

Ok, Ok, you all know that I wasn’t on summer vacation. However, since I am going back to work at the same time that most people are going back to school, it is compreable to a summer vacation. As a result, I decided to do a little ‘summer adventures’ recap:

  1. I ran my fastest 5K race ever – (Running Like (and For) a Girl)
  2. I entered and am a finalist in the Samsonite “This Bag Can Take It Contest” – (if you haven’t seen the video yet, here it is:
  3. I completed 3 Bucket List items (Painting like Bob Ross, CPR, and Ziplinning)
  4. I got a new library card
  5. I made the most incredible zucchini bread and my short and sweet zuchinni bread post became my most popular post ever…surpassing my post about seeing pregnant Natalie Portman at Stone Barns (Spotting Celebrities at Stone Barns – Natalie Portman)
  6. I visited Ikea and bought fabulous new bedding (Ikea – The Epcot of Furniture (Even Though it is All From One Country))
  7. I enrolled in the Institute for Integrated Nutrition
  8. I learned to play Texas Hold’em at School of Cards (Know When to Hold ‘Em, Know When to Fold ‘Em)
  9. I became certified in CPR and AED from the American Red Cross
  10. I “put myself out there”
I think this may have been my most productive summer ever!
What do you think? What was your favorite summer story from my blog?

Why Are We Fascinated With Celebrities?

June 9, 2011

Yesterday, The Souzapalooza Blog had a very big day. My little blog, that usually averages about 50 visitors a week, hit an all time high of 286 hits yesterday! Most of them generated from two blog posts, Spotting Celebrities at Stone Barns – Natalie Portman and Glee Live in Boston – Recap. My post on spotting Natalie Portman at Stone Barns was actually reposted by an administrator on NataliePortman.com, which has been driving traffic to my site the past couple of days. In addition, my Glee Live recap has been coming up in tons of searches most likely due to the event just happening and that it is a big tour this summer. Looking through the stats on some of my other blog postings, the more popular ones tend to be those that have to do with pop culture items and celebrities.

What is it about celebrities that intrigues us? Why are we always wanting to know more? Is it their talent? Their money? Their fame? Why do we choose to listen to their views and opinions? Why do we buy their perfumes, sneakers, clothing lines, or what ever hair color, bone density pills or other random products that they may be endorsing that week?

I bought Rob Lowe’s memoir Stories I Only Tell My Friends last month, and why? He is a good-looking successful actor who I was interested in knowing more about because I enjoy his work and admire his sobriety. In reading his book, the thing I really enjoyed is how matter of fact he was in his writing. He weaves tales of growing up in California, and mentions some of the friends that he made along the way; the fact that they were incredibly talented actors (Sean Penn, Chris Penn, Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Janet Jackson, Sarah Jessica Parker, ect) is just a side note. It isn’t who they are, just what they happened to do.

At the end of the day, they are just people. No better than each of us. They may seem like a ‘big deal’ but remember, you have your own unique awesomeness and you should let it shine brightly!

Spotting Celebrities at Stone Barns – Natalie Portman

This past Saturday I worked for Red Barn Bakery at the Stone Barns‘ Farmer’s Market. Stone Barns is usually full of people from the tri-state area, who come to the farm to explore the grounds, learn about the programs offered, take photographs of the property and its “residents” (aka the animals who live there), and there are even some people who run the trails.

Working the farmer’s market is always interesting since there are always so many different people who are looking for different types of stuff. Some people are looking for a treat after having lunch at Blue Hill, some are looking for a savory tart to bring home for dinner or a gallet to bring home for dessert, some are looking for something to reenergize them after a run, and some are looking for something to take visiting. Most of my job is to givie passers-by a rundown of what we have, explaining ingredients, and answering question. It is usually pretty busy, and can be a bit overwhelming since I am pretty much running a one woman show. This weekend was no exception. Customers were swarming the table before I could get most of the products out.

The booths finally got a lull around 2:30 when I was able to take a breath. I noticed this nice looking couple walking the courtyard in front of the market area. They caught my eye because it was obvious that the young woman was very, very pregnant. They made their way over to the Red Barn table. The gentleman of this couple started asking me about the various cookies that I had for sale and began debating with his lady friend over the choices. I was looking at her while they were talking, I couldn’t help but think to myself, Wow, she is a really pretty girl. As I started really looking at her, I thought to myself, she looks a lot like Natalie Portman. As she lifted her sunglasses to look at something, I took a good look at her, and I realized – Holy Crap it IS Natalie Portman!!! As I continued my banter with who I then realized was Benjamin Millepied, she interrupted him to remind him they were going to a dinner party that evening and should bring something for dessert. They decided on a large blueberry gallet, some molasses cookies to snack on right then, and they were on their way.

I have to say, she is a very pretty woman. The way she looks on-screen is exactly the was she looks in real life. I doubt there is much airbrushed need on her pictures. I was going to ask if she was who she was, but her companion subtley let me know that my instincts were correct, but I shouldn’t say anything. He is very good-looking as well, and has a sexy french accent. She is probably going to give birth pretty soon (my money is on the next two weeks) and I am sure they are going to make very beautiful, smart, talented, multi-lingual babies. I wonder if they will get married at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, it is supposed to be a beautiful place to get maried.

Have any of you had any recent celebrity sitings?
