Gotta Go Back In Time….

January 20, 2012

HBO has been showing the Back to the Future Trilogy around the clock this month. In my opinion, I think this is awesome, simply because Back to the Future is one of my all time favorite movies. My parents actually took me to see this in the movie theater… where my father fell asleep 15 minutes in to the film and thought the whole movie was about Lybian terrorists taking over a mall. I’m not positive, but he may still believe this is the plot of the movie.

Anyway, one of the many things that bothers me in the trilogy, beyond the lack of flying cars (as I mentioned last week) and the many issues I have with the hic-ups in the space-time continuum, is the two Jennifers. Now in Back to the Future we have “Original Jennifer” who is played by Claudia Wells. She tries to keep Marty from getting a tardy from Principle Strictland, she cheers on Marty and his band the Pinheads when they try out for the dance, and of course if it wasn’t for her note on the back of the Save the Clock Tower flyer which contained all the pertinent information about the lightning strike, would Marty have really have made it back to the future? I think that flyer would have been tossed and Marty would have ended up taking over Goldie Wilson’s job at the diner. Although her screen time is lacking, her role is instrumental in getting Marty back to 1985.

Now in Back to the Future II and III, we have “New Jennifer” (as I like to refer to the Jennifer played by Elisabeth Shue). Let me be clear – I love Elisabeth Shue. She is a wonderful actress. She is wonderful as Allie in Karate Kid, Chris in Adventures in Babysitting (and does a hell of a blues song), Jordan in Cocktail, Sera in Leaving Las Vegas (for which she was nominated for an Academy Award – loosing to Susan Sarandon in Dead Man Walking) and my personal favorite, Lori Craven in Soapdish. If you have the oportunity to see the movie “Hamlet 2” with Steve Coogan, you can see the admiration many have for Ms. Shue. That being said….I really can’t stand “New Jennifer”.

New Jennifer seems cheesy and fake. We have the terrible dye job they did on Elisabeth’s blonde locks. Her outfit is frumpy and not very stylish (even by 80′s standards). Plus, Elisabeth seems like she is trying too hard in the role. She is incredibly enthusiastic, but lacks that subtle sultriness that Ms. Wells exuded as Original Jennifer. Here is a you tube video of the original scene versus the reshot scene for Part II and tell me what you think.

Incidently, the reason Claudia Wells was replaced by Elisabeth Shue was due to Ms. Well acting hiatus so she could care for her mother who had been diagnosised with cancer.

We can get in to my issues with the space-time continuum next week, for now let me know your thoughts on the Jennifer Paradox

Why Mess With A Good Thing

October 13, 2011

This weekend, the remake of Footloose is being release in theaters. I will not be seeing this film.

The reason – pure protest.

I don’t understand why the film industry motivated to take films from the 80′s and remake them. Honestly, who thought this was a good idea? Can anyone name a successful remake of an original film? Remakes almost always disapoint us. Why can’t the movie industry understand that?

In my world there will only be one Ren McCormack, and he is played by Kevin Bacon.

In my world there will only be one Marty McFly, and he is played by Michael J. Fox

In my world there will only be one Johnny Castle, and he is played by Patrick Swayze

Now Accepting Applications

May 1, 2011

I try to share a little bit of me with you each day here in my blog-o-sphere, but I think now I am ready to share a little of me with someone deserving of it in the real world. As a result, I will be accepting applications for potential boyfriends. If you have been reading this blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed, I’m kinda awesome (well, at least in my own mind). And as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I have this wonderful quote hanging on my bulletin board.

…the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous. ~ Carrie Bradshaw

I am ready to find someone who loves the me that I love.

Now let me just clarify, I’m not one of those girls who must have a boyfriend. I’m not looking to get married or settle down just yet. I’m perfectly content with just me and my turtle. I have a lot of things in my life that keep me busy. I love my family and I am blessed to have amazing friends. It would be nice to have a significant other to go to the movies, have dinner or watch True Blood with; (not that Jobin, LH, The Secret Agent or Ka-Ka aren’t great to do these things with.) Plus, it would be great to have someone to help me fix things and change light bulbs beyond my dad, step-dad and The Handy Man (Ka-Ka’s boyfriend)

I don’t seriously think that I am going to find a boyfriend by soliciting for one here on my blog, however, I think I need to put my list of qualifications out in to the universe and see what it throws back at me. I read on Pick The Brain the other day that “2% of all adults have set their goals in writing. The interesting fact is that those 2% make as much money as the other 98% put together. If you want to succeed, setting goals firmly in writing isn’t an option, it is a requirement.” (sure they were talking $$, but it could apply to anything don’t you think?) “It’s like Doc Brown always said, if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything”~Back to the Future.

Frogs Need Not Apply!

So, here is what I am looking for:

Wanted – One single non-smoking male between 30-36 years of age located in the tri-state area, who has ample time available to make pursuing a relationship with me a priority. I am looking for a well-rounded individual; preferable someone who is smart, funny, kind, supportive and patient. It is required that you are self-sufficient; please be employed or financially secure and PLEASE do not live with your parents. I do not expect 24 hour adoration, so please make sure you have your own friends and hobbies to keep yourself busy when I am busy with mine. Of course, if the opportunity arises for you to meet my friends, I hope you will be social and treat them well.Killing bugs, opening jars, and possibly carrying the occasional heavy item may be required.  Liking the Yankees, HBO Sunday night programing, or sushi will improve your chances. It would also be great if you liked to run and/or go to the gym so I could have a built-in workout buddy, but once again not a deal breaker.

If you fit, or know anyone who fits the aforementioned description, please feel free to have them contact me here at The Souzapalooza Blog.

Are you qualified to be my potential suitor?
