Every Spring for the past 5 years, I attempt to have flowers in front of my house in the planters that sit by my door. The first few years, I bought flowers and potted them, but the past couple, I have actually used seeds. I can usually get something to grow but it always looks a like a bit of a crazy garden.
This year I have chosen to plant Violas and Dianthus from seeds.
Both are supposed to grow in partial shade and to a height between 6-8 inches according to the descriptions on the back of the packet.
So Sunday afternoon I cleaned up my planters, stirred up the soil and planted my new seeds. They are already to soak up the sun and start blooming.
Hopefully they will look like these when they finally bloom:

I will keep you posted on their progress!

I’d love to hear how it goes – every year I say I’m going to plant flowers and never do. good luck!
